in the patch
The five littlest McBrides were helping me pick blackberries tonight.

The best part of having a patch is the fruit that comes from all the hard efforts put forth from everyone.

There are countless lessons to be learned from scripture about reaping and sowing, to eating the fruit of your labor, to giving your children the fruit of their hands, etc.

Psalm 128:2 says, “You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.”

Galatians 6:7 says, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

Proverbs 31:31 says, “Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.”
As you plant that seed in one season and reap in another, talk to your children about that beautiful process.  Have them work alongside you so they can see with their own eyes how God set up creation.  They understand more than we realize.

Anything and everything we do as parents should be a learning lesson for our children.  It doesn’t matter if you farm, homestead, bee-keep, live in an apartment in the city, or have an office job.  Parents are their children’s first teachers.  And everything we do should be in reference to scripture, and always point back to Christ.  In short, make every lesson about the gospel message.

Daddies and mamas, plant the seed.  Water it daily.  Fertilize it.  And let God do the growing in their hearts.

In due season, you will yield fruit.
