This is a recipe that I have enjoyed since I was pregnant with my first baby.  It has been a way to not only save money, but a healthy way to avoid chemicals on my baby’s sensitive skin.

I have an old rubbermaid container from our local grocery store that I purchased over 2 decades ago.  I purchased about 4 of them, but no longer can find these as they change with the seasons.  These tubs are virtuously indestructible and have lasted me through every child.  I am positive you can find plastic tubs anywhere in all shapes and sizes.  I would buy a similar size and shape to a half roll of paper towels to get started.  I used to buy Bounty, but I prefer Viva these days.  In my opinion, they absorb more and do not tear as easy.

Recipe ingredients:

  • 2 cups of water
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops tea tree essential oil
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. jojoba or vitamin E oil (optional)

Stir until incorporated.

Directions:

Place the roll of paper towels on a cutting board and with a very sharp knife cut the roll in half.

Place cut side down into the water/oil mixture. It will absorb quickly.  Place the lid on secure and after about 20 seconds, flip the container upside down.

After about 20-30 minutes of it absorbing the liquid, I turn it right side up.  Take the lid off and take the cardboard center out.

Discard the wet cardboard and carefully peel the first piece of paper towel square from the middle.

I keep them in my bathrooms to wipe down messes, or keep them handy in our vehicle for dirty hands or faces.  It is a great way to clean up in a short amount of time.  It is funny to think about how many container-fulls I have made over the years.  I am positive it has been cost effective with this many people under one roof.  I hope you can use them as much as we have.
