There is something refreshing when I make this body butter.  I love the smell, the cool feeling, and the versatility of it.  My kids really benefit from using this, especially in the drier seasons.  I typically will make this twice a year, and store it in smaller tins and pretty glass jars.  I enjoy making this with my older girls as they love creating different smells that are their favorites.  They also make wonderful gifts for family and friends.  I hope you are blessed by this creation that is adaptable to any family.

Recipe:

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup shea butter
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup almond oil
  • 1/4 cup bees wax
  • 2 Tbs. Zinc Oxide (omit if you aren’t using this as a sunscreen)
  • 1 tsp. red raspberry seed oil
  • 1 tsp. vitamin E oil
  • essential oil (I love lavender and ylang ylang)
  • 3 drops of beta carotene (from a supplement gel cap)

Directions:

Combine everything (except zinc and essential oils) into a bowl.  Bring 2 cups of water to a boil and place bowl over the water (serves the same purpose as a double boiler.)  Melt the ingredients together, occasionally stirring the mixture as it melts.  Remove from heat, let it cool, then add your essential oils.  Place in the refrigerator for at least an hour.  Take your chilled bowl and using your mixer, whip it for about 10-12 minutes.  If you are wanting to add the zinc oxide, slowly add your zinc (be very careful to NOT breathe it in) as your mixing.  Once it’s whipped, place it back into the refrigerator for about 10 minutes to chill.  Scoop it into your containers that you want to use or gift.
